Security Officer Grade B Job Vacancy

Thorburn Security Solutions is looking for professional and motivated Grade B Security Officers to join its security team in Gauteng. Successful candidates will report directly to the Security Manager and will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment at client sites.

Security Officer Grade B positions are available across Centurion, Midrand, Tembisa, Olievenhoutbosch, Kempton Park, Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Soweto.

The successful candidates may work across various sectors, including lifestyle estates, oil and gas, mining and resources, corporate and financial services, retail and wholesale, logistics and distribution, and education.

Security Officer Grade B Duties and Responsibilities

1. Security Supervision and Leadership

  • Supervise and coordinate security officers on site.
  • Maintain discipline, order, and professional conduct among security personnel.
  • Conduct security briefings and debriefings.
  • Allocate duties and shifts according to operational requirements.
  • Support team leadership and ensure compliance with site security standards.

2. Access Control and Visitor Management

  • Control access and exit points to maintain a secure environment.
  • Verify the identities and credentials of employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate visitor and access-control registers.
  • Monitor and regulate vehicle and pedestrian movement.
  • Prevent unauthorised access to client premises.

3. Security Patrols and Physical Protection

  • Conduct regular security patrols and building inspections.
  • Perform perimeter checks and identify potential security risks.
  • Inspect windows, doors, gates, and other access points.
  • Ensure that premises remain secure after operating hours.
  • Report suspicious activity, damage, or security breaches immediately.

4. Incident and Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents.
  • Activate alarms, panic mechanisms, or other emergency procedures when required.
  • Respond professionally to threats and urgent situations.
  • Detain and manage trespassers or offenders in accordance with applicable laws and company procedures.
  • Escalate serious incidents to the Security Manager or relevant authorities.

5. CCTV and Security Monitoring

  • Monitor CCTV cameras, alarms, and other security systems.
  • Identify suspicious behaviour and potential security threats.
  • Investigate and report unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Monitor security systems to help prevent theft, vandalism, intrusion, and other incidents.

6. Security Reporting and Documentation

  • Complete accurate incident reports and observation logs.
  • Maintain inspection records and security documentation.
  • Record and report security incidents and irregularities.
  • Communicate relevant security information to management and clients.
  • Ensure all reports and documentation are completed accurately and on time.

7. Customer Service and Professional Conduct

  • Provide professional and courteous service to clients, visitors, employees, and members of the public.
  • Respond appropriately to client concerns and security-related queries.
  • Provide regular security updates where required.
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, ethical conduct, and compliance with anti-corruption standards.

8. Security Compliance and Procedures

  • Enforce company security policies, procedures, and site instructions.
  • Comply with PSIRA requirements and security industry standards.
  • Follow all applicable national, provincial, and local laws.
  • Ensure security duties are performed according to client and company requirements.

9. Security Equipment and Systems

  • Check that security equipment is operational and properly maintained.
  • Use radios, CCTV systems, access-control equipment, alarms, and related security systems correctly.
  • Report faulty or damaged equipment immediately.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment inspections where required.

  • Matric / Grade 12 qualification.
  • Previous security industry experience.
  • Knowledge of access-control procedures.
  • Knowledge of CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Strong observation, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to handle conflict calmly and professionally.
  • Physically fit and able to perform security duties.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • A valid driver’s licence will be advantageous, depending on site requirements.
  • Firearm competency for business purposes will be advantageous.
