About the Role
The Armed Guard Officer is responsible for protecting people, property, and assets by maintaining a visible security presence and responding effectively to security threats and emergencies. The successful candidate will work in a high-risk environment, ensuring the safety and security of clients and company assets.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12), or
- Grade 10/11 with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant security experience
- Valid PSIRA Grade C Certificate
- At least 2 years’ experience in the security industry
- Previous experience as an Armed Guard or Armed Response Officer
- Experience working in mining, industrial, or other high-risk environments
- Valid Firearm Competency Certificates for all three firearm categories (including business purposes)
- Medical fitness certificate
- No criminal record (SAPS fingerprint clearance required)
- Valid Code 8 (B) driver’s licence or higher (depending on site requirements)
- Must currently reside in Secunda
Required Skills
Successful candidates should have:
- Excellent firearm handling and safety knowledge
- Strong observation and reporting abilities
- Effective verbal and radio communication skills
- Knowledge of access control procedures
- Patrol and incident response experience
- Basic computer literacy for report writing (advantageous)
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct routine patrols of the assigned premises
- Monitor access control points
- Search suspicious persons and vehicles where required
- Prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access
- Respond to alarms and emergency incidents
- Carry and use firearms according to company policies and legislation
- Complete incident and occurrence reports
- Ensure compliance with security and safety procedures
- Assist employees, visitors, and clients
- Liaise with SAPS and emergency services when required
- Identify and manage security risks on site
