About the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA)

The MQA is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). It plays a vital role in implementing the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998, focusing on the growth of skills in the mining and minerals sector.

Its mandate covers several key sub-sectors, including:

  • Coal, Gold, and Platinum Group Metals (PGM) Mining
  • Diamond Mining and Mineral Processing
  • Cement, Lime, Aggregates, and Sand Production
  • Jewellery and Diamond Processing

Internship Details

This two-year internship programme provides practical experience and professional exposure in the Quality Assurance Unit. The programme is designed for unemployed South African citizens who have never participated in an internship before.

Duration and Stipend

  • Programme Length: 24 Months
  • Monthly Stipend: R9,306.18

Key Responsibilities

The selected intern will work under the Manager: Quality Assurance and gain hands-on experience in:

  • Quality Assurance and Development Partnerships
  • Conducting Workplace Approvals (WPA)
  • Monitoring and assessment of quality assurance processes
  • Managing the Learner Management System and maintaining learner records
  • Supporting learner certification
  • Managing document control in the Quality Management System
  • Assisting with other delegated tasks within the Quality Assurance Unit

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • National Diploma in Human Resources Development/Management or Administration (NQF Level 6)
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (NQF Level 7) in the same fields will be an advantage

Required Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this internship, candidates must have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of skills development legislation
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail and a proactive attitude
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages
